When do you need a new core?

The core holds the whole cube together from the inside. If it has cracked, the arms have worn out, or your cube has play after a drop that tension adjustment can't fix, replacing just the core is usually cheaper and quicker than buying a new cube. It also makes a handy spare if you often take your V11 apart for cleaning, lubing or modding.

What does the 20-magnet Ball-Core do?

In a Ball-Core, the magnets sit in a spherical core and interact with the magnets in the centers. This helps the layers settle into place on their own and keeps the cube more stable during fast turning, with less overshooting. The 20-M version has more magnets in the core than the 8-magnet variant, so it behaves differently. That's why you need to match the core to the version of the cube you own. Fitting a different core will change the feel, even if everything fits mechanically.

Check your V11 version

• V11 with a 20-magnet Ball-Core (e.g. the MagLev UV version, 18th Anniversary Edition and SE): this is the part for you.
• V11 with an 8-magnet Ball-Core: MoYu offers a separate core with 8 magnets for it.
• Standard V11 without Ball-Core: these cubes have a classic cross core, and its replacement is a separate part.

Replacing the core requires disassembling the cube, so it's a good idea to have a tension adjustment tool at hand. After reassembly, set the tension and compression again to your liking.
