PiLube Blue 5k – low-viscosity cube lube

PiLube Blue 5k is a cube lube from the Blue series by PiCube. In this series, the number in the name indicates the viscosity. The 5k version is fairly thin and light. It leaves your cube smooth and makes it a bit faster, but it doesn't get as "slippery" as with the thinnest lubes. The bottle holds 10 ml.

Blue series: how 5k differs from the other versions

The PiLube Blue series is a set of lubes that differ mainly in viscosity. According to distributors, it looks like this:

• Blue 3k (weight 1.5): the thinnest in the series and the most speed-focused,
• Blue 5k (weight 2): still light, but gives a bit more smoothness than 3k,
• Blue 10k (weight 3): a medium version where control starts to matter more than speed,
• Blue 30k, 50k and 100k: increasingly thick lubes that noticeably slow the cube down and make it more stable.

So Blue 5k is the second thinnest lube in the series. It works well on a cube that has become sluggish or "dry" when you want to bring it back to life without making it overshoot. If your cube is already very fast and hard to control, it's better to go for a thicker lube from this series, e.g. 10k.

How to use

Thin lubes are usually applied to the pieces, i.e. the tracks and edges of the pieces. A few drops are enough. Then turn the cube for a while so the lube spreads. It's better to add too little and repeat if needed than to overdo it right away. Too much lube can make the cube feel "wet" at first. Thinner lube wears off faster, so you'll need to re-lube the cube from time to time. The Blue series lubes differ in viscosity, so you can combine them. For example, apply 5k to the pieces and a thicker lube to the core and springs. This makes it easier to tune speed and control separately.

Who is it for?

For cubers who take care of their cube setups themselves and want a light lube that speeds up the cube without going overboard. It's also a good choice for those who are just learning to lube. The 5k viscosity is safer than the thinnest lubes, because it's harder to "overdo" the cube with it, i.e. make it too fast.
