PiLube Purple

PiLube Purple 10 ml

PiLube Purple is a medium-viscosity cube lube from the PiLube series by PiCube. In thickness, it sits between thin speed lubes and thick control lubes. It is meant to speed up your cube and make turning smoother, without the typical feeling of thin oils that the cube is "running away" from your fingers. The bottle holds 10 ml.

How it changes your cube

After applying PiLube Purple, a dry, plasticky feel should become noticeably smoother and the cube should turn more lightly. Thanks to its medium viscosity, the lube stays on the piece tracks and doesn't disappear after a few solves. Sellers point out that it lasts quite a long time, so you don't need to re-lube your cube all the time. It works well in modern flagships with strong magnets, as it slightly dampens the sharp "click" without taking away the cube's speed.

Judging viscosity is partly subjective. Most sources describe Purple as a medium lube, but some users call it fairly thick while still fast. If you want your cube to be as fast as possible above all, go for a thinner lube. If your cube is too loose and you get overshooting, something thicker will do the job.

How to use

• Start with a few drops on the pieces inside the cube. Too much lube is more likely to slow the cube down than help.
• After applying, turn the cube for a few minutes so the lube spreads and the cube breaks in.
• If the effect is too weak, add another drop. It's easier to add more lube than to remove the excess.

Who is it for?

PiLube Purple is a sensible choice for a first lube if you don't know yet whether you prefer a cube set up more for speed or for control. Medium viscosity is a fairly safe starting point, from which it's easy to move to a thinner or thicker lube. More advanced cubers can use it as an all-round lube for daily practice or mix it with other lubes from the PiLube series to fine-tune the feel of a specific cube.
