C4U 5x5 Plus Clock

C4U 5x5 Plus Clock is a clock puzzle from Cube4You (C4U). Instead of the classic 3x3 grid of dials, each side has a 5x5 grid. The goal is the same as with a regular clock: set all the dials on both sides to 12 o'clock. The larger number of dials and the connections between them, however, make it a completely different puzzle. This one comes in a purple colour scheme (Purple).

How is it different from a regular clock?

A standard clock has only a few pins, and each one links a corner wheel with several dials around it. You can learn the methods known from WCA in a few evenings. A 5x5 clock has many more dials and pins, and a single pin change affects several places at once. So instead of repeating a memorized algorithm, you need to plan your next moves and keep track of which dials are already set. For C4U, the "Plus" label means an extended version of the basic model.

The 5x5 clock is not a WCA event. It is a puzzle for figuring out on your own and for your collection, not gear for setting times at competitions.

Handling

Clocks with many connected dials have more complex mechanisms than a classic clock. It is better to turn them calmly and not force a dial that resists. This usually means the pin setting is locking more parts together than it seems. We also do not recommend taking the puzzle apart. Small parts are easy to lose, and putting it back together can be difficult.

Who is it for?

For people who know the regular clock well and are looking for something that once again requires thinking, not just muscle memory. It is also a great pick for collectors of unusual puzzles and fans of the Cube4You clock series. For a first clock, especially for a child or someone who wants to compete, it is better to choose a classic magnetic 3x3 clock and move on to the 5x5 version only after mastering the basics.
