C4U uni-Wheel 5x5 Clock

For several years now, Cube4You (C4U) has been releasing one Clock variant after another: 4x4, 5x5, 6x6, 7x7, 8x8, Plus versions, hexagrams and maze versions. The C4U uni-Wheel 5x5 Clock belongs to the Uni-Wheel series, which also includes 4x4, 6x6 and Hexagram-19 models. It is a Clock puzzle with a 5x5 layout, made for anyone who has outgrown the classic Clock.

How it differs from a regular Clock

The goal is the same as with the WCA Clock: set all the dials on both sides to 12 o'clock. The 5x5 version, however, has more dials and more dependencies between them, so a move that works straight away on a regular Clock often changes more here than you expect. Knowing the standard method helps you understand the principle, but you can't simply carry a ready-made solution over. You have to work out how the mechanism behaves yourself and come up with your own way of solving it. For many people, that is exactly what makes this puzzle so interesting.

Uni-Wheel vs. the regular C4U 5x5 Clock

Cube4You also makes a classic 5x5 Clock and a 5x5 Clock Plus. The Uni-Wheel is a separate design with a different mechanism, so don't buy it as a replacement for those models, or the other way round. If you already own one of them, the Uni-Wheel version will give you a new problem to crack, not the same one in a different colour.

How to handle it

C4U Clocks have many interconnected parts, so it's best to turn them gently. If the mechanism resists, don't force it; check the pin settings instead. We don't recommend taking the puzzle apart, as the small parts are easy to lose and reassembling it can be tricky.

Who is it for?

For puzzle collectors and Clock fans who can already solve the standard version and are looking for something harder. It is not a WCA event, so it won't be useful at competitions. For a first Clock, including one for a child, it's better to choose the classic 3x3 model and come back to this one later.
