MoYu Weilong Pyraminx Maglev

MoYu WeiLong Pyraminx MagLev

A Pyraminx from the WeiLong series in which MoYu replaced the classic springs with the MagLev system. The MoYu WeiLong Pyraminx MagLev was released at the end of 2021, alongside the standard spring version. It is a magnetic speedcubing pyraminx with adjustable magnet strength and adjustable MagLev, and it is allowed in official competitions.

How it turns

The MagLev version is very fast and loose right out of the box. Without springs, the moves feel light: there is no spring resistance and no spring noise. Strong magnets in the pieces snap the layers into place well, so the puzzle stays stable even at high speed. However, some users find it hard to control with the factory setup and factory lube. Wiping off the excess lube, using a slower lube or changing the magnet strength usually helps.

If you prefer tight, firm pyraminxes, the MagLev may not suit you. In that case, the standard spring-based WeiLong is a better choice, as it gives a more controllable feel.

MagLev and adjustment

• MagLev: repelling magnets work instead of springs. This makes turning looser and quieter.
• Magnet layout: magnets in the edges and centers, plus separate magnets that align the tips.
• 5-level magnet strength adjustment using the included tool with interchangeable heads.
• 8-level MagLev strength adjustment with a special key, plus screw adjustment.

Note when disassembling: the tips are held quite firmly. If you force them off with your fingers, you can damage the plastic mounts. It is safer to pry them off gently with a plastic tool.

Who is it for?

For speedcubers who like very fast, loose turning and want to fine-tune their pyraminx. The MagLev requires more control. For your first pyraminx or for casual solving, the standard version or a simpler magnetic model will be a better choice.
