A special edition of the WeiLong Pyraminx, created by MoYu together with PiCube. This version combines all three upgrades: MagLev instead of springs, core magnets in the 6-Core Magnetic variant and a glossy UV coating. MoYu WeiLong Pyraminx SE MagLev 6 Core Magnet UV is based on the proven WeiLong mechanism. One of the things that sets it apart from the regular model is its orange internal plastic.

Mechanism and magnets

The base WeiLong Pyraminx has magnets in the edges and centers, plus separate magnets that help the tips align. In the SE version, the magnet strength can be adjusted across 5 levels, so you can set the puzzle stronger for stability or weaker for lighter turning.

MagLev replaces the springs with pairs of repelling magnets. In practice, this means smoother turning and no spring noise. The 6-Core Magnetic variant has additional magnets in the core. They stabilize the layers and help moves settle into place during fast turning.

How it turns

The WeiLong Pyraminx is known as a fast pyraminx with good corner cutting. According to users of the base model, the magnets feel fairly strong straight out of the box, and the factory lube can make the puzzle feel less controllable at first. A few dozen solves or wiping off the excess lube usually helps. The core magnets are meant to reduce exactly this jumpiness at high TPS. How much control they actually add depends on your magnet setting and turning style.

The UV coating is smooth and glossy, and it also offers more grip than matte plastic. It comes down to preference: some people prefer a matte finish.

Which SE version should you choose?

The SE series comes in several configurations. You can choose between a matte or UV finish, springs or MagLev, and a standard, 6-Core Magnetic or 10-Core Magnetic version. This variant is one of the most feature-packed options. It makes the most sense if you practice pyraminx for time and want a fast mechanism with extra stabilization. For your first pyraminx, a simpler magnetic version is more than enough.
