MoYu WeiLong Pyraminx SE Magnetic

MoYu WeiLong Pyraminx SE Magnetic is a refreshed version of the magnetic WeiLong Pyraminx, developed by MoYu together with PiCube. The SE (Special Edition) version has an orange interior and a new magnet adjustment mechanism with 5 strength levels. This Pyraminx comes in a stickerless bright colour scheme and measures about 96 mm.

How it turns

The base WeiLong Pyraminx is a fast, light-turning pyraminx. It has magnets in the edges and centers, plus separate magnets that position the tips. Cubers often say that out of the box it can be almost too fast and a bit less controllable. That is why magnet adjustment comes in handy in the SE version: a stronger setting snaps the layers into place more clearly and gives you more control, while a weaker one makes turning lighter. A common remark about WeiLongs is that the tips turn slightly slower than the rest of the puzzle. A lube chosen specifically for the tips helps with this.

One practical tip: don't remove the tips by pulling them off with your fingers, as you can easily damage the plastic mounts underneath. It's better to pry them off carefully with a flat tool.

WeiLong Pyraminx SE versions

The SE series comes in several configurations. They differ in finish (matte or UV Coated), turning system (springs or MagLev) and core magnets (no magnets, 6-Core Magnetic or 10-Core Magnetic). The Magnetic version is the basic configuration of the series. Core magnets pull the layers into an aligned position and add stability. They help above all those who find the regular WeiLong too "loose". The MagLev version replaces the springs with repelling magnets, which makes turning quieter and gives it a slightly different feel.

Who is it for?

For anyone who wants to solve the Pyraminx against the clock and is looking for a proven mechanism with magnet adjustment, without paying extra for core magnets. It also works well as a first serious pyraminx after a cheap, non-magnetic model. The fastest competitors who value very stable, "controlled" behaviour may want to consider the versions with core magnets.
