MoYu Weilong Pyraminx Magnetic

MoYu WeiLong Pyraminx Magnetic

MoYu released the WeiLong Pyraminx Magnetic at the end of 2021. It was the company's first pyraminx in a long time designed with competitions in mind. This version has classic springs, magnets in the edges and centers, and separate magnets that align the tips. Michael Nielsen set a 1.64 s average on this model, which was the world record at the time. It comes in a stickerless bright color scheme and is legal for official competitions.

How it turns

The WeiLong Pyraminx is fast and turns lightly, but the magnets hold it enough to keep it under control. Straight out of the box it is often heavily lubed, so it may feel very loose for the first few solves. It usually settles down after a short break-in. Users praise its corner cutting and the way the tips snap into place by themselves. Pops are rare and happen mainly on loose setups.

Magnet and spring adjustment

• 5 levels of magnet strength. You change them with a special screwdriver with interchangeable tips. Stronger magnets give a clearer "click" and more stability, while weaker ones give lighter turning.
• 8 levels of spring compression, set with the included key.
• Screws for tension adjustment, which you change with the regular screwdriver from the set.

This way you can set up the same puzzle for speed or for calmer, more controllable solving.

Magnetic or MagLev?

This version has springs and a standard colored interior. In the MagLev version the interior is purple and the springs are replaced with a pair of repelling magnets. This gives smoother turning and removes the spring noise, but some people find the MagLev harder to get used to straight out of the box. There are also versions with magnets in the core, which stabilize the layers even more. The Magnetic version is the simplest and will be a good starting point for most people.

Who is it for?

For cubers who practice pyraminx for time and want a proven model with magnet adjustment. It also works well as a first proper pyraminx after a cheap, non-magnetic one. If it feels hard to control at first, just set stronger magnets and more compression.
