Picube MoYu WeiLong Pyraminx Magnetic 6 Core Magnet

This is a factory-modified version of the WeiLong Pyraminx, one of MoYu's most popular pyraminxes. The base mechanism stays the same. It has the classic magnets in the edges and centers, separate magnets that position the tips, and spring-based tension adjustment. Picube adds 6 core magnets on top of that. This magnetic pyraminx comes in the Stickerless Bright version.

How it turns

The standard WeiLong Pyraminx is fast and cuts well, and right out of the box its magnets feel noticeably strong. Users also widely agree that it comes heavily lubed. Some people find it not very controllable at first. A few dozen solves or wiping off the excess lube usually helps. The core magnets are meant to further stabilize the layers and help them align during fast turning. This makes it easier to keep a high TPS without the puzzle becoming misaligned. Michael Nielsen set his former world record average of 1.64 s on this base model.

Adjustment

• Magnet strength: 5 levels, adjustable without disassembly.
• Spring compression: 8 settings.
• Springs instead of MagLev: this version uses the classic spring system. The MagLev variant replaces the springs with repelling magnets.

The tips are held on quite firmly. When removing them, don't pull hard with your fingers, as you could damage the plastic mounts.

Standard, 6 or 10 core magnets?

The WeiLong Pyraminx comes in three versions: without core magnets, with 6 and with 10 core magnets. The 6 Core Magnet version is the middle option. It gives extra stability compared to the standard version, without having as many magnets as the 10-magnet version. If you prefer lighter, more free-flowing turning, you may be happy with the standard model and save on the modification.

Who is it for?

For those who solve the pyraminx for time and want a proven design with extra stability from the core magnets. For a first pyraminx, especially for a child, the cheaper standard version is more than enough.
