This is a special edition of the popular WeiLong Pyraminx, made by MoYu together with PiCube. The MoYu WeiLong Pyraminx SE Magnetic 6 Core Magnet UV runs on classic springs (no MagLev). It has magnets in the core and a glossy UV coating. It also differs from the regular WeiLong Pyraminx in its orange internal plastic and magnet strength adjustable in five levels.

What it's based on

The standard WeiLong Pyraminx has magnets in the edges and centers, plus separate magnets that align the tips. Michael Nielsen set a 1.64 s average on this model, which was a world record at the time. Users describe it as a clearly fast pyraminx with fairly strong magnets right out of the box. Once the factory lube wears in a little, the puzzle usually becomes more controllable. The SE version keeps the same character but gives you more finish and magnet options.

Core magnets, springs and UV

• 6 core magnets. Extra magnets in the core help align the layers, so the pyraminx feels more stable during fast turning. In the SE series this is the middle option: between the version without core magnets and the variant with 10 magnets.
• Springs instead of MagLev. Turning has a more classic feel than the MagLev version, where the springs are replaced with repelling magnets.
• 5 magnet strength levels. You can set how firmly the layers snap into place: stronger for more control, or weaker for lighter turning.
• UV coating. The surface is glossy, smooth to the touch and gives better grip than matte plastic.

Which SE version should you choose?

The WeiLong Pyraminx SE comes in a matte or UV version, with springs or MagLev, and with no core magnets or with 6 or 10 core magnets. This variant is chosen by cubers who want more stable behavior than the basic SE but prefer springs to MagLev. Some reviewers think the SE versions with core magnets perform better than the regular WeiLong. However, they also point out that a cheaper pyraminx with a simple setup can be just as fast. If you're just getting started with pyraminx, a simpler version is enough to begin with.

Who is it for?

For cubers who practice pyraminx regularly and want to tailor it to themselves: magnet strength, finish and stability. On the standard WeiLong, removing the tip caps that cover the screws can be tricky. It's best to do it carefully with a tool rather than your fingers.
