MoYu WeiLong Pyraminx SE Maglev

MoYu WeiLong Pyraminx SE MagLev

The MoYu WeiLong Pyraminx SE MagLev is a refreshed version of the WeiLong Pyraminx, developed by MoYu together with PiCube. SE stands for Special Edition. This Pyraminx has orange internal plastic, 5-level magnet strength adjustment and a MagLev system instead of classic springs. It comes in a stickerless bright colour scheme.

How the SE differs from the regular WeiLong

The mechanism is based on the well-known WeiLong Pyraminx, but the SE version lets you choose a few things to suit you. The series includes spring and MagLev variants, with a matte or UV finish, and with no core magnets or with 6 or 10 core magnets. This one is the basic MagLev version: the simplest way to get a WeiLong SE with light turning without paying extra for a magnetic core.

MagLev and magnet adjustment

• MagLev: the springs in the core have been replaced with repelling magnets. In practice, turning is usually lighter and less "springy" than in the spring version.
• 5 levels of magnet strength: you can change the magnetic pull depending on whether you prefer a distinct "click" and more control, or lighter, faster turns.

How it solves

There are only a few reviews of the SE so far. Early users rate it as clearly better than the base WeiLong and its MagLev version. The MagLev feel doesn't suit everyone: some Pyraminx solvers prefer the more "controlled" feel of springs, and for them the spring variant will be a better choice. The versions with core magnets additionally stabilise the layers and snap them into place more firmly.

Who is it for?

For people who solve the Pyraminx regularly, time their solves and want a puzzle with magnet adjustment. It also works well as an upgrade for someone who already has a regular WeiLong and wants to try lighter turning. For a child's first Pyraminx, a simpler magnetic model is usually enough.
