MoYu WeiLong Pyraminx SE Magnetic UV

MoYu WeiLong Pyraminx SE Magnetic UV is a Special Edition of the well-known WeiLong Pyraminx, created by MoYu together with PiCube. The mechanism is the same as in the base model, but this version has an orange internal plastic, a UV coating and 5 levels of magnet strength adjustment. This variant uses a classic spring (no MagLev) and has no magnets in the core. The pyraminx comes in a stickerless bright version.

How it turns

The base WeiLong Pyraminx is considered fast, with clearly noticeable magnets and good corner cutting. Users often say that right out of the box the magnets feel quite strong and the pyraminx itself can seem a bit too fast to fully control. Usually all you need to do is weaken the magnets and adjust the spring compression. So the magnet adjustment in this model isn't just there for the sake of it: it really lets you set up the pyraminx more for speed or more for control.

What the SE Magnetic UV version offers

• UV coating. The glossy surface gives more grip than matte plastic. It feels noticeably grippier under your fingers.
• Spring instead of MagLev. The classic spring system gives a more familiar, slightly more predictable feel than MagLev, where the spring is replaced by repelling magnets.
• 5 levels of magnet strength. You change the magnet strength with the adjustment tool.
• Orange internals. The internal plastic sets the SE edition apart from the standard version.

Which SE variant should you choose?

The SE series comes with a matte finish or UV coating, with a spring or MagLev, and with no core magnets or with 6 or 10 magnets in the core. The Magnetic UV version is a good choice if you want the grip of a UV coating and the classic feel of a spring, without paying extra for a magnetic core. Who is it for?

For anyone who practises pyraminx for time and wants a refined, adjustable main puzzle, and for those who already have the basic WeiLong and are looking for a version with better grip. For your first pyraminx to learn on, the cheaper standard Magnetic version is more than enough. It has the same mechanism, but no UV coating.
